Matthew Loso

Matthew Loso is a self-taught winemaker; he learned the trade hands-on and earned his stripes in the industry to become a winemaker. These days he is a highly sought-after wine consultant.

Matt first fell in love with wine while working at Maxi’s Dining Room. This foray into the restaurant industry provided the foundation for his life-long affair with wine. In 1989, Matt started as a cellar hand at French Creek in Woodinville, and in 1993, he founded Matthews Estate and produced highly-revered wines under this brand for 15 years. Many of Matt’s wines consistently scored 90+ points by leading wine journals over the years, including his 2003 Cabernet Franc, which scored 96 points from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate.

A group of high-profile industry magnates from the Seattle area admired Matthews Estate wines so much that in 2001, they chose Matt as their consulting winemaker for Barons V, providing valuable expertise and knowledge about winegrowing and production. Currently, Matt serves many winery clients from Woodinville to Walla Walla.
